Math 305 Project

You will be assigned to groups of about 3 members each. Each group will do a project. Below is a list of possible project ideas. See me if you want to do something different. You will also be given a sample project in class. Projects are to be typeset and should be of professional quality. The sample project was done entirely in Maple, but this is not required.

The projects will be graded on a scale of 1 to 5. The sample project would probably be a 3. Originality counts, so if two groups somehow end up with similar projects both will get a lower grade. The project is 10% of your course grade. The project is due Friday, April 16.

    Project ideas:
  1. Study problems 33-35 in 2.10. Find realistic application for equation (i) in #35; see papers referenced in the footnote.
  2. Study problems 20-22 in 2.6. Do a project on mathematical models of epidemics.
  3. Study problems 22-29 in 5.3. Do a project on the Legendre differential equation and its connection to Legendre polynomials.
  4. Look through the Differential Equations with Maple text for project ideas.
