Lectures on Minimal Sets

The last part of the course will be seminar style. I will lecture on minimal sets of flows, a subject within the general area of chaos theory. Students should do their best to follow the lectures, but there will be no tests on this material. This frees me to speak at an advanced level.

Tentative Topics:

  1. Introduction: Beyond the Circle.
  2. The plane: Poincare-Bendixon Theorem.
  3. The torus: Denjoy's Example.
  4. The torus: Denjoy's Theorem.
  5. Stability issues?
  6. The double torus: Markley's Example.
