Bruno Widmann
Bruno Widmann is a contemporary Uruguayan painter.
I saw an exhibit of his at the
Museo de Arte Contemporáneo
in Santiago Chile in January 2005. The paintings struck me
immediately. Most where dark with lots of gray. They were
subterranean sceens with small groups of people trying to escape,
but there was really no where to go; the surface world, if there was
one, was just as barron and ailen as the world below.
Often one could see parts of faces in the large rocks.
Unlike the people they seemed contented. The paintings evoked the
same feelings I get when reading Beckett's short works Lost Ones or Worstward Ho.
"Widmann is considered a Latin American master. He has work in collections in Colombia, Spain, Mexico, Italy, Uruguay, Israel, Chile, Argentina and the United States. He has participated in important international art fairs and has had solo shows at the Museum of Modern Art in Mexico City, Mexico, The Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach, California and The Museum of Fine Art in Chile, Santiago de Chile."
